- John went to Clay City, Jones County, Iowa in 1839 and later removed to Scotch Grove. He was a farmer, postmaster, US Consul to Peru, and a Railroad Station Agent. He is 'R. R. depot agent' in 1880 census of Scotch Grove, Jones, Iowa with wife Johana and son John E. daughter Bertha R. and niece Sarah McBeth.
